What FastSigns will not make for you
Took this screen-grab from a Google+ Hangout I was on this week with a co-writer and a designer I sometimes work with (I might have a book in progress, for this site, maybe).
Few people have seen the inside of my office, so it’s hard to say “notice anything different?”
Well, there’s something different. The sign on the wall behind my head, next to the calendar, really jazzes up the experience of being on a video chat with me.
The sign was a special commission from fellow hippie-folk and readers of this blog. Johnny and Angie over at Bare Root Studio make a swell little business with hand-painted signs here in Denver. I’ve been reading Angie’s blog for a while, and she frequently comments here on Not Quite Hippie. I had the opportunity to meet them and see their work in person at the last Handmade Homemade market before the holidays.
At the HaHo we picked up this number:
So I flat out asked them if they could make a sign for my freelance business, Eat At Dave’s (no idea why I needed a sign, as I have no storefront or public office to direct folks to). A few weeks later, I had this guy:
What can I say? It rocks, and I know that there will never be another sign quite like it ever. Furthermore, it doubles as a piece of art (which I’m horrible at selecting) so even if Eat At Dave’s ceases to be, the sign still stand to have some purpose. For example: maybe I open a diner?
Check out their blog and the Bare Root Studio Etsy.
